Roku iPhone remote control application

The Roku HDMI television plug-in has recently released an iPhone app that allows users to control their devices from their smartphones. While Android already has an app of its own, the iOS app is a completely interactive experience that gives a new dimension to the device’s capabilities. The best part about the iPhone version is that it is completely free.

One of the most innovative features of the new iPhone app is the ability to control your television set without even having to look up at it. All of the controls and layout of the Roku are located on your iPhone which gives unprecedented access to anyone too lazy to turn out of bed and look at their TV. While this may sound like a grim assessment, it is actually a brilliant move.

While the iPhone app makes television surfing on Roku easier, the process was never too complicated to begin with. The original remote for the device only has 4 buttons and a directional pad that allows users to navigate their system. Instead of having a galaxy of unnecessary buttons like most cable providers, Roku is making television simple with their innovations.

One of the things that the minimalist remote does make difficult is typing in account information into fields. According to VentureBeat, the iPhone’s digital keyboard makes it a snap to fill out billing and personal information when signing up or renewing subscription services. Instead of fumbling around with clumsy controls, the iPhone app puts more power into the palm of your hand.

The Roku player has gained traction as a cheap alternative to purchasing a smart TV or an advanced gaming console. Instead of purchasing a more expensive device for a non-techie gift recipient, Maggie Reardon of CNET recommends purchasing the cheapest version of the product. You are guaranteed access to all of the staples like Hulu, Netflix, and HBO, and don’t have to worry about anything other than a broadband connection.

The Roku service is going to bring the world one step closer to a digital TV revolution. Cable companies will no longer have the same influence and phone companies like AT&T may only have the ability to publish the white pages after the public gets better connnected. Google is also starting to take over the phone business as well as offering television services.  Unless cable companies want to create less complicated interfaces and start charging for program packages ala carte, more and more people will start turning to digital solutions like Roku for their entertainment needs.

Record-busting motorbike will be jet engine on wheels

The way to crack the motorbike land speed record may be to put a jet engine on two wheels
RICHARD BROWN is a man with unfinished business. In 1999, he smashed the one-way speed record for a motorbike by hitting 584 kilometres per hour on the salt flats of Bonneville in northern Utah. But his claim on the outright world record - which is based on the average of two runs in opposite directions - was thwarted by technical problems.

Now he is trying again. He hopes to be the first person to exceed 720 km/h on a motorbike while achieving an average two-way speed of at least 640 km/h. Any old bike will not do: he will be using one that is jet-propelled.

While cars used in land-speed-record attempts, like the Bloodhound jet car that will attempt the challenge in 2012, and certain types of boat have taken advantage of jet thrust since the 1950s, all record-breaking motorbikes have used a conventional engine that drives the rear wheel.

This is because it is difficult to pack a jet engine into a two-wheeled frame capable of enormous speed with any degree of safety. Fast cars can be built around old jet fighter engines, but these are far too heavy to fit into a bike that must be balanced by the driver making tiny steering adjustments to the front wheel.

So for his new bike, called Jet Reaction, Brown has redesigned a 930-kilowatt helicopter engine to produce thrust instead of turning a rotor. It was "quite difficult", he says. "One is working with very fine tolerances in very difficult materials. If you get it wrong, destroying the engine is the most likely result."

Brown has also added his own reheat unit, or afterburner. It sprays fuel into the hot exhaust gases, causing it to ignite and generate yet more thrust. The idea sounds simple enough, though he says that getting it to work at something approaching its theoretical potential "requires much more development". The reheat burner sits above two canisters that deploy braking parachutes when needed.

Brown has a track record in ambitious jet engine projects. Following his 1999 record attempt he built a sub-orbital rocket, but the launch in South Africa had to be cancelled. He is also working on a gas-turbine-powered jet pack, similar to one developed by the US military, that he hopes will allow the wearer to remain airborne for 10 minutes.

The current motorbike land-speed record, 606 km/h, was set in 2010 by Rocky Robinson on a bike called the Ack Attack Streamliner. Such record-breakers feature elongated metal bodies - as does Jet Reaction - making them look more like giant bullets than motorcycles. They are also fitted with retractable stabilisers for balance when moving slowly or stationary.

Brown expects to carry out trials with Jet Reaction at a UK airfield in March next year, with an attempt on the world record back at the Bonneville salt flats pencilled in for 2013.

It won't be easy, says Mark Chapman, Bloodhound's chief engineer. "The biggest issue is air intake," he says. "You have to be sure the air flow through the jet is stable or the engine could surge, which could be dangerous."

Intel Shows Off Its Smart Phone and Tablet for 2012

2012 appears to be the year that the BIG Chipmaker pushes further into the Mobile Market.  With it’s latest “Atom” processor dubbed Medfield.  It’s lower power and all in one chip approach could bring the chip giant the leg up in this lucrative, market.

Prototype devices show Intel chips running devices that could challenge the iPhone and iPad early next year.

Intel released the prototype of a Smart Phone running Google’s Android OS on the Medfield.

The Chip and devices will be directly targeting the domination that ARM processors have held on the Mobile,  Smartphone and Tablet markets.  Recent news out of AMD also reported a shift toward capturing a piece of this market as well.Last week, Technology Review tried out prototype smart phones and tablets equipped with Intel's latest mobile chip, dubbed Medfield, and running the Android mobile operating system created by Google. "We expect products based on these to be announced in the first half of 2012," says Stephen Smith, vice president of Intel's architecture group.

Known as "reference designs," the devices are sent out to inspire and instruct manufacturers interested in building products around Intel's latest technology. "They can use as much or as little of the reference design as they like," says Smith, who hinted that the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in January could bring news of gadgets in which Intel's chips will appear.

The phone prototype seen by Technology Review was similar in dimensions to the iPhone 4 but noticeably lighter, probably because the case was made with more plastic and less glass and metal. It was running the version of Google's operating system shipping with most Android phones today, known as Gingerbread; a newer version, Ice Cream Sandwich, was released by Google only about a month ago.

Intel's reference tablet, which used the same Medfield chip as the phone, was running the latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich. It had a slightly larger screen than the iPad 2 but was about the same in thickness and weight. A limited trial suggested that it was noticeably nicer to use than older tablets based on the abandoned Honeycomb version of Android.

Intel has tried to gain traction in mobile devices before, but those efforts were unsuccessful. In the immediate aftermath of the iPhone's meteoric rise, the company focused on netbooks and mobile Internet device.computers larger than smart phones that never became popular. A long-term effort to develop an open-source mobile operating system to rival Android, called Meego, was scrapped earlier this year when partner Nokia signed a deal with Microsoft to use Windows instead.

The phone was powerful and pleasing to use, on a par with the latest iPhone and Android handsets. It could play Blu-Ray-quality video and stream it to a TV if desired; Web browsing was smooth and fast. Smith says Intel has built circuits into the Medfield chip specifically to speed up Android apps and Web browsing.

Windows 8

Windows, being one of the most used OS, brings great challenges for Microsoft to keep its users impressed in the next version of Windows.Although Windows 7 has done exceptionally well since its release, Microsoft has been constantly working to make the next version of Windows a better one by further improving upon the existing features, and have added new impressive Windows 8 features along with a stunning UI.

Microsoft released the early version of Windows 8 on a prototype tablet last week. Those of you who would like to taste and experience the all new Windows 8, you can download the Developer Preview, which is currently in pre-beta version. The developer version shows off the current stage of the OS.

Windows 8 New Features:
No Compatibility Issues in Windows 8
The biggest reason that Windows Vista could never make it up to the mark of the sale it could have that, it was not compatible with many applications of Windows XP. I am sure there won't be any such problem and this will rather prove to be a Windows 8 new feature for the users.

Windows 8 – 128 Bit Operating System
Some people say that after the labor of 2 years, the Microsoft engineers will able to design a 128 bit Operating System which they will call Windows 8. Though it sounds impossible in one sense but it is also a rumor that Microsoft has allied with Intel to make 128 processors as soon as possible.
If this is a fact that Windows 8 is going to be a 128 bit operating system, then it will surely be a revolution in the operating system industry because no other operating system other than Windows 8 will be a 128 bit Operating System.

Windows 8 RAM support – 512 GB
When practicality goes hand in hand then Windows 7 64 bit edition supports 192 GB of RAM. According to that, if Windows 8 will be a 128 bit Operating system, then Windows 8 is surely going to support something around 512 GB of RAM, which I think would be a very big advantage for the server runners.

Windows 8 new looks
There is a rumor that the upcoming looks of Windows 8 are going to be something at which the users will become a fan just by seeing itself. I heard that some of the Windows 8 pictures were leaked on the net somehow. The Windows 8 new look can entirely be different than what it was in Windows 7 and Windows vista, with full change in the icon arrangement, program management, window flashback and Windows 8 taskbar.
Windows 8 Libraries
Windows 7 was full of new libraries in it. There may be many more such libraries in Windows 8 so as to enhance the Windows 8 new features functionality. The Windows 8 libraries might be able to include more functionality as well as security safeguards.

Windows 8 Security
Windows 7 became popular, far more popular than Windows Vista could ever become because of great security inclusions. Such security can also be called as Windows 8 security inclusions that mean that the Windows 8 people can also add new security inclusions and a better firewall to Windows 8.

HTML 5 and Javascript based Windows apps
A significant change to the Windows operating system is, Windows 8 will support a new App model with HTML 5 and Javascript as the native programming language. HTML 5 applications will be able to take advantage of the new UI model introduced in Windows 8. Microsoft mentioned that it's own proprietary technologies like .NET, Silverlight and WPF will be supported and it is unclear wether they can take advantage of the new UI library coming with Windows 8 to take advantage of the new touch and Tile based UI.
HTML 5 and Javascript Apps will be able to take full advantage of the new features in Windows 8 through the UI library provided with Windows 8, including hardware acceleration in Internet Explorer 10.

Windows 8 is a touch centric and touch friendly operating system
This is a big change to Windows in it's history. Windows 8 is touch centric. This means the way applications are developed is going to change. New Apps targeting Windows 8 will have larger icons, buttons and controls for easy touch operations. You can move, reposition and slide using your fingers. Windows Phone 7 already friendly, but this is getting in to the regular Windows based computers too. In other words, Windows is borrowing from Mobile OS.

Windows 8 will run on any devices
The gap between desktops, laptops, tablets, slates and phones are going away or at least being reduced significantly. Windows 8 can run on any devices including regular x86 processors and SoS chips. Windows 8 will combine features required for easy navigation and operation of any type of devices. You can use the tablet based touch operations on a desktop computer and use a mouse/keyboard with a tablet (if you wish to do so...).

The most significant aspect of this change is, you can develop applications for Windows 8 and that will run on several devices. This saves millions of dollars for enterprises in application development.

Windows 8 on a USB drive
Microsoft decided to respond to the challenges from Google Chrome by offering 'Take Windows 8 with you wherever you go. This feature is called "Windows 8 on USB drive" by the Windows 8 watchers. Since Microsoft has not officially named their features and the product itself, let us go by the name given by the Windows 8 lovers. Some others call this feature "Windows 8 portable workspace".

The good thing is, now you can take your Windows 8 profile and settings with you on your USB drive and get productive any where in the world and on any computer within minutes. However, the not so good news is, this feature will be available only for the enterprise license users.

Windows 8 App Store feature
App store became a very popular name among the iPod, iPad and iPhone users. If you are an Apple product user, you would have used App store atleast once. I am sure you will agree with me on how easy and reliable it is to buy the products from the integrated App store.

Better late than never. Microsoft is integrating the App store concept with Windows 8. The new Windows 8 will have an integrated App store where you can buy the tested, verified and reviewed products directly from your Windows. You can read reviews written by other buyers and also share your reviews on the items you buy.

There are lot of screenshots posted by various bloggers. However, we do not know if they are real or not. Wait couple of weeks to find more reliable information on the Windows 8 App store.

Ribbon UI in Windows 8
Have you noticed the ribbon UI in th eMicrosoft Office 2010? According to the available sources, Microsoft is expanding this kind of UI to the next version of Windows. I personally do not like the Ribbon UI so much, but if that is what Microsoft going for, I probably should start liking it! But I am not alone. When some websites started reporting the alleged screenshots of Windows 8 ribbon UI, a lot of people have expressed that they are complex, cumbersome and not very intuitive. Let us see how the ribbon UI is going to look like in the final release of Windows 8, if it makes it to there.

In the Ribbon UI, all the menu options are spread on a ribbon like toolbar instead of an organized text menu. You can reach most of the options in the application with 1 or 2 clicks on the buttons in the ribbon.

Modern Reader - The new built-in PDF reader for Windows 8
For most computer users, downloading Acrobat Reader is part of initial setup of the computer. Most software application vendors include Acrobat Reader in their product releases.

The scenario is going to change. Just like Internet Explorer became an essential piece of Windows, a PDF reader is also becoming part of Windows. According to the available but unreliable sources, Windows 8 will have a built-in PDF reader, which most people call it 'Modern Reader' currently. This will save you some time from installing Acrobat Reader on your computer. Modern Reader will feature Zomm in and out options, jump between sections, a back button to jump to previous spot etc. Also, Modern Reader supports side by side views. The name suggests it is just a reader, so you won't be able to edit PDF files using this tool. This is probably going to be a light weight document reader and you may need to install other third party software for advanced features.

3D support in Windows 8
Sterespoic 3D support is one of the earliest rumors on Windows 8. None of the leaked versions of Windows 8 or related documents confirm this. However, if Windows 8 really comes with the stereoscopic 3D support, it will be an interesting new feature.

Many electronic manufacturers including Televisions are switching to 3D versions. In fact, it is really hard to find a flat panel TV without 3D support. I recently purchased a 55-inch Sony Bravio TV. I was looking for a non-3D model, but I ended up buying a 3D model since I could not find a new model without 3D support. But one important thing with Sony TV is, you cannot watch 3D shows without buying an external 3D transmitter and 3D glasses. I was comfortable watching the 2D shows in the TV and did not bother to purchase the 3D transmitter and glasses.

I am not sure what will be the case with Windows 8 computers. Are they going to come with simple 3D support, but no 3D display until you connect your laptop to a 3D display system? Are we going to need separate 3D glasses? Or, will it come with built-in 3D glasses?

3D laptops of computers are going to get any attention only if they come with built-in 3D glasses. Otherwise, no computer engineer is going to buy 3D glasses and wear it before he open his computer.

Windows 8 will support ARM Processors
Steve Ballmer indicated in a recent demonstration that Microsoft is planning to extend Windows to support ARM processors. In an official press release early this year, Microsoft announced the upcoming version of Windows will support System on a Chip (SoC) architectures on x86 and ARM architecture. Support for ARM processors will be a significant change in Windows 8. This will allow OEMs to install Windows 8 on small devices like netbook, smartphone and similar devices. Obviously, Windows running on small devices will have it's own limitation. The success of Windows 8 on ARM systems will depend on how well they can compete with the fast growing Android and iOS. The tech watchers are expecting that Microsoft will offer a good challenge to Android.

Many of the statements in the official press release indicates that the next version of Windows will be giving due importance for tablet based computer systems. Microsoft does want to turn a blind eye towards the threat from the iPads and Android tablets.

Apple iPad 3

The Apple iPad is one of the best-selling tablets in the world, and the iPad 3 is one of the most anticipated devices from Apple this year. This article explains you about the new features that are to be included in the iPad 3.In a nutshell, the Apple iPad3 will feature a new, thinner and sleeker design, down nearly 20 percent in size compared to the iPad 2. It will also support full touchscreen HD display with a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536.

Apart from that, the iPad 3 will have a lighter battery life, reducing the weight of the tablet. However, the battery is reported to cost 20 to 30 percent more than the current iPad’s battery, which will also have a longer battery life.

It is also expected that the iPad 3 will have a wireless charging technology, which will be able to charge the battery and transfer data wirelessly.
iPad 3 Features:

  • Retina Display: Various Apple-centric sources, including the blog 9to5Mac, have compiled rumors over the past few months indicating that Apple is planning on some sort of higher resolution display for the next iPad, possibly of the same quality as the Retina Display currently available in later-model iPhones.
  • Improved Camera: The iPhone 4S features an 8-megapixel camera, which could also find its way into the iPad 3.
  • More Powerful Processor: The iPad 2 comes equipped with a 1GHz dual-core A5 processor. If Apple’s going to debut a more powerful chip, the iPad 3 (possibly with its higher resolution screen) would be the time to do it.
  • Same Screen: During an October 2010 earnings call, Apple CEO Steve Jobs famously derided 7-inch tablets as intrinsically inferior to the 9.7-inch iPad. Now that he’s passed on, Apple executives could certainly reverse course and begin producing smaller screen iPads, perhaps with an eye toward competing more directly with the 7-inch Kindle Fire. Before his passing, though, Jobs almost certainly produced a roadmap for his company’s next few years of operation. In light of that, it seems unlikely that a smaller screen iPad he would have abhorred will make an appearance less than 12 months after his death.

Apple iPhone 5

the Apple iPhone 5 is one of the most anticipated 2012 gadgets. Apple launched the iPhone 4S, which disappointed its fans very much. Although the device has some nice changes under the hood, including the addition of voice-recognizing personal assistant Siri and an excellent 8-megapixel camera, the phone looks quite identical to its predecessor – iPhone 4.The upcoming phone from Apple is expected to sport the Apple’s latest and greatest A5 processor chip, iCloud service, higher-resolution camera, and a 4-inch screen size.
As the 5th generation of the iPhone is on the verge of being released, and with all the speculations spreading on the Internet about the iPhone 5, people are anticipating and desperately waiting for the launch of the smartphone. Many fans and current Apple iPhone consumers are wondering what groundbreaking features Apple will add to the new iPhone 5.

UPDATE: It is official, it is a refreshed iPhone 4, called the iPhone 4S – read about it here, but we will keep updating this post with new iPhone 5 features and news, so this is the latest we know about the iPhone 5:

This article summarizes the various features and specifications that are expected to sport the device.
Although Apple does not reveal the exact specifications and features until the device is officially unveiled, we could dictate some of the main features that are expected. However, rumor of the new iPhone 5 features, in terms of both hardware and software upgrades, will definitely entice any smartphone buyer.

The upcoming phone is expected to sport the Apple’s latest and greatest A5 processor chip, iCloud service, higher-resolution camera, and a 4-inch screen size. Here are some of the most anticipated iPhone 5 features:

Apple announced iOS 5.0 and its features during the WWDC 2011 keynote address on June 6, 2011. The user interface is based on the concept of direct manipulation, using multi-touch gestures. It is expected to come with more than 200 new features that will include improved Notification System, News Stand and iMessage.

iMessage is an application that is developed to compete with Blackberry Messenger. The app will allow iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad users to communicate (much like a chat service) with each other. The iMessage feature has been integrated into the SMS/MMS application used originally on the iPhone models.

iPhone 5 will house the A5 as the main processor, which technically is the same chip that currently powers the iPad 2. The A5 contains a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU with NEON SIMD accelerator and a dual core PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which means that the iPhone5 can do twice the work at once. The processor speed will be somewhere between 1.2 to 1.5 GHz, with probably a 1GB RAM.

The processor upgrade is done not just to increase the processing speed of the phone, but also to compete with the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S II.

The A5 chip might effectively increase the power use, however, it is said that the chip has “got a dynamic power management”, which can lower the [speed] depending on the workload, and thus efficiently make use of the power.

The iPhone 4 sports a 5 megapixel camera, so I’m expecting that the iPhone 5 will have a rear-facing 8MP dual-LED flash camera. However, this isn’t really “awesome”, since most of the high-end Android smartphones come with an 8MP camera. Along with that, the iPhone 5 is expected to have a front-facing camera for video chatting.

According to sources, Apple has filed several patent applications relating to 3D picture capturing to the US Patent and Trademark Office later in March. This indicates that the iPhone 5 might feature a 3D camera. The filing indicates that the device will be capable of capturing, processing and rendering 3D images with dual-camera hardware.

Another interesting feature is that the iPhone 5 will be capable of taking pictures in Panorama. It will work similarly to the ’360 Panorama’ application in the App Store. It will let you take pictures in a sequence as you move the camera from one side to another, which in the end will effortlessly stitch the images together to create a panorama.

Additionally, if Apple really wants to keep up with the competition to Android, then it might consider improving upon the video resolution to a full 1080p HD recording. Currently iPhone 4 has a 720p video capture at 30 frames per second.

There hasn’t been a better screen resolution since the release of the iPhone 4. Currently the iPhone 4 has a 3.5 inches screen size, and sources indicate that Apple might stay locked with the current size. But a few other sources say that Apple is planning to increase the screen size to 4-inch with higher screen resolution. I feel that Apple could compromise at 3.7-inch or 3.75-inch.

Here are some of the other features that we can expect from the iPhone 5:
  •  According the AT&T documents leaked by LulzSec, the Apple iPhone 5 will offer 4G and will be LTE (Long Term Evolution) network compatible. LTE is a project of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and is the latest standard in the mobile network technology.
  • According to International Business Times, it is rumoured that the iPhone 5 will feature a new SIM-less design with 2 to 3 internal antennas for CDMA and GSM compatibility, which will make it a “worldphone”.
The above mentioned features are some of the improvements that we can expect from Apple. However, we cannot assure you that they can be true, but most of the upgrades are more likely to be utilized.
Apple definitely wants to fight back against Android smartphone makers like HTC and Samsung, and perhaps it is why the new iPhone 5 will host some of the outstanding features.

Nissan electric cars

Nissan will supply the state of Oregon with electric cars starting late in 2010 the latest in a series of agreements aimed at encouraging demand for the ultra-clean vehicles. The Renault-Nissan alliance formed a similar deal with Tennessee earlier this year to establish the conditions to encourage the use of electric cars in the central part of the state where Nissan has its U.S. headquarters. The alliance also has concluded accords with Israel, Portugal, Denmark, Spain, France and a prefecture in Japan. Renault-Nissan Motors alliance is in the Advisory Council of the PHEV Research Center. When Nissan launches its new line of electrical vehicles in America in 2010, it will initially target fleet buyers, which can provide their own charging stations. "It will be a real business," says Tom Lane, Nissan's global product-planning chief, "not just a way to sell 200 cars in California." He expects sales to retail buyers to begin in 2012, at a price of around US$25,000.

Automobile Industry has been one of the fastest growing sectors across the globe recently. Soon after the dark days of recession faded, buyers across the globe are seen investing in the automobile sector like how. The purchasing power seems to be escalating over time and the results are seen on the jam-packed roads of most metro polies.

One biggest concern that has gripped the minds of all educationists and industry experts is the enviornmental hazards that are caused with the emission of toxic substances and the depreciating fuel reserves across the globe. The environment has been the biggest bully in the race of development and is continuing to be so. Much thought has been involved by various automobile manufacturers and one solution that has picked on everyone's fantasy is the use of electric vehicles or battery operated cars that would reduce the emission levels growing rapidly.

Nissan Motors recently gathered much limelight by introducing a two seater electric vehicle. When asked, the automaker was enthusiastic to respond that the comoany aims to produce 25,000 electric cars in an year in the near future. In the line-up, it is Nissan Leaf, the first electric vehicle from the company's stable that would be launched in the month of December'2010. Following the footsteps of this Japanese car maker, is Renault, the French car maker that also wishes to produce 25,000 electric vehicles in an year.

Confirming the news, a spokesperson from Nissan motors said that the two auto giants, Nissan and Renault would be manufacturing 50,000 batteries for developing electric vehicles in one year. Hideaki Watanabe, the Corporate Vice President, of the NEC Corp, clearly stated that the company is not expecting electric vehicles to be its top selling product. The lithium-ion batteries used in the range of electric cars in used in other electronics like laptops, mobiles etc currently across the world.

The new small electric car developed with the combines expertise would be known as “Nissan New Mobility Concept” which can run up to 100 km (62 miles), and producing a maximum speed of 75 km (47 Miles) in one hour. In an attempt to develop a row of electric charging stations the company is in talks with with the government over the same. With development moving hand in hand with attempts to soothen the environment, the industry is bound to flourish.

Digital Camera-Olympus SZ-30MR

In the market of cameras that are tailor made to fit in the criteria of compactness for travel with powerful features Olympus is a well established brand for cameras. With the launch of their new product SX-30MR they have increased the battle of popularity among the cameras in the market.
Olympus SZ-30MR has extremely slim design and if compared to the other travel compact cameras it very thin in terms of thickness. With respect to the design it comes in two attractive colors i.e.  black and silver which are undoubtedly appealing to both the genders and all age groups. Camera’s front has the lens, auto focus assist and flash that has an Olympus branding engraved on the lid of its pop-up. It also has a large hand grip, which makes it more sturdy and comfortable.
The camera’s rear has a black finish while the front flashes a 3-inch screen. Controls are placed right next to it. They include a video recording button, some other regular features present on other control devices and a 4-way jog dial. On top of the camera is the shutter release button, the on/ off button and the mode dial.

SZ-30MR has the ability to save two pictures at the same time and also comes with multi-recording features that have come in as interesting options. The camera flashes several other intriguing elements like a panorama mode, a magic mode with 8 filters and a 3D mode. Also recording videos at full HD 1080p is a quality. The camera is a fun device to explore all the right areas and places around the world.
Spacing between the buttons is good and comfortable for the over lookers. Capturing videos or images with one hand is as easy task with this one here as it comes in with a light weight for the good. Outdoor imaging too has become fun now as the camera is capable of showing accurate colors with the natural beauty of each pixel. The indoor images are vibrant and interesting and this feature will definitely get many likes for camera. Recording videos at full HD would have not been so much fun ever before. But when one moves from a dark light to a lighter one, there is a slight transition issue that lasts for less than a second. The flash comes in very strongly as it is capable of lighting up an area of approx 15 feet. The device along with it brings the 925mAh Lithium ion battery which will keep the camera of about three days.

BlackBerry delay darkens RIM's future

RIM's announcement late Thursday that it expected to launch smartphones powered by its new QNX operating system months after initially expected revived calls for the ouster of RIM's co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie.
The delay, combined with a dismal performance outlook issued along with the quarterly results, sparked renewed chatter about the break-up of the Canadian tech giant, which has floundered as nimbler competitors claw away at its market share.
"RIM confirmed the BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be delayed until the latter part of calendar 2012. This could be game over for the BlackBerry franchise," analysts at Canadian brokerage National Bank Financial wrote in a note to clients. BlackBerry 10 is the name the company has given to the QNX phones, which RIM had initially expected to deliver in the first quarter.
"We see a high risk that this is too late to turn around RIM's position and believe the risk of further delays is meaningful," Nomura analyst Stuart Jeffrey said in a research note. "Even in the best case, however, it seems unlikely RIM will have large volumes of its BB10 devices on sale within 15 months."
RIM has been counting on the new QNX operating system to make up ground lost to Apple Inc's iPhone and iPad and the slew of devices that use Google Inc's Android software. The delay portends another long year of transition for RIM, allowing rivals to make further in-roads into RIM's market share.
The constant stream of bad news from RIM over the last year has driven its shares to their lowest since early 2004, and it has led to analyst and investor demands for Balsillie and Lazaridis to step down.

"RIM reminds me of a beloved grandparent. You love them, but they are very outdated and sooner or later they will be gone," said independent analyst Jeff Kagan in an email.
"Either the existing CEOs must update their thinking or bring in a new CEO to lead the company out of the darkness and back into the sunshine before it is too late."

Barclay's cut it price target on RIM's U.S.-listed shares to $14 from $16; Citigroup reduced it price target to $12 from $15, and National Bank Financial dropped its price target to $8 from $10.
Research in Motion shares, which have lost almost half their value in the last three months, fell 11.2 percent to $13.44 Friday afternoon on the Nasdaq. The Toronto-listed shares fell 12.1 percent to C$13.89.

Samsung Making A5 Processors For Apple

The A5 processor - the brain in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 - is now made in a sprawling 1.6 million square feet factory in Austin owned by Korean electronics giant Samsung Electronics, according to people familiar with the operation. One of the few major components to be sourced from within the United States, the A5 processor is built by Samsung in a newly constructed $3.6 billion non-memory chip production line that reached full production in early December.Nearly all of the output of the non-memory chip production from the factory - which is the size of about nine football fields - is dedicated to producing Apple chips, one of the people said. Samsung also produces NAND flash memory chips in Austin.Samsung has added about 1,100 jobs to support the new non-memory chip production in the factory, which produces 40,000 silicon wafers every month, a Samsung spokeswoman said. The rest of the 2,400 employees in Samsung's Austin location work in its NAND flash memory factory by the logic chip factory, she said. The Korean company, which began the US plant in 1996 to make its NAND flash memory chips, continues to produce them there alongside the A5. Samsung's factory is the largest foreign investment in Texas with a total investment of about $9bn, according to the Austin Chamber of Commerce.

Tokyo 2011: Honda RC-E Electric Superbike Concept

At the Tokyo Motors Show, Honda not only revealed stuff like the EV-STER, but also went back to its roots as a motorcycle manufacturer focused on innovation. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the future of superbike racing previewed by the RC-E, an electric two-wheeled rocket. At first glance, it looks like any other superbike, with its wider rubber and full fairings, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice a little plug decal, and then it all starts to sink in. The bad news is that Honda has not revealed any powertrain details. The only thing we do know really is that it’s based on a 250 cc racer chassis, probably the CBR25R. Another innovative feature is the fact that it’s got LED lights at the front and back. the Honda Corporation will be presenting seven new concepts they have lately developed, including this Honda RC-E, part of their motorcycle-related activities. A great way to increase a bike’s aerodynamics coefficient is by changing its headlight with one that’s barely noticeable. Honda have done this, adding a new LED headlight system right near the air intake system. Furthermore, the bike has Ohlin’s TTX shock-absorbers. But by far the most uncommon piece of this bike is the engine, which runs on electricity. This is very easy to notice due to the plug-in sign in the middle of the bike and the large bundle of copper. The engine is also much lighter than the usual gas-powered ones, and more powerful, allowing the whole contraption to be installed on a 250cc-class bike, instead of a 600cc one.

Mitsubishi Develops Plant-Based Green Plastic Floor Mats

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC), working with EIDAIKAKO Co. Ltd, MRC Pylen Co. Ltd and Toyota Tsusho Corporation, has developed a new floor mat made using plant-based bio-polyethylene (bio-PE) fiber to add to its lineup of proprietary plant-based "Green Plastic" products. The company plans to start production of the new floor mats in the summer of 2012. Bio-PE is a plant-based resin made using sugarcane molasses (a thick syrup produced in the refining of raw sugar). The company has developed the bio-PE fiber for use in floor mat piling with an eye toward reducing usage of petroleum-based plastics and cutting CO2 emissions. As opposed to conventional petroleum-based floormats, the fiber in this new floormat has a core-sheath structure in which the bio-PE core is covered with conventional petroleum-based polypropylene (PP) sheath which allows it to meet the high levels of performance demanded of car floor mats, including abrasion and heat resistance. In-house calculations indicate that the new bio-PE fiber floor mat achieves a 15% reduction in life-cycle CO2 emissions over a similar mat made using petroleum-based PP fiber. (Plant-based materials are carbon neutral (a carbon-cycle concept which holds that CO2 emissions given off when a plant is burnt can be offset by the CO2 absorbed during photosynthesis in another plant in its growth process) and so allow a reduction in CO2 emissions throughout a product's lifecycle compared to petroleum-based materials.) In its efforts to stop global warming and reduce dependence on petroleum, MMC is conducting research and development of a series of proprietary plant-based "Green Plastics" to replace petroleum-based plastics used widely in car parts today. The company's current range of plant-based Green Plastics products includes materials made using liquefied wood-based phenolic resins and interior surface materials which combine PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and cotton fibers. MMC will continue to push forward the development and the commercial application of these and other Green Plastics.

Sony to launch Android tablets

Sony has announced that it plans to launch two tablet computers running Google's Android operating system. The devices, code named S1 and S2, will go on sale towards the end of the year. Android is currently the fastest growing mobile platform and is expected to claim a 38% market share by 2015. Sony's entry into the tablet market was much anticipated, but comes relatively late in the day compared to other manufacturers. Apple launched its first version of the industry-leading iPad in April 2010.In addition to the base Android Honeycomb operating system, Sony will add several of its own features, including the ability to transmit video and music to TVs and stereos using the DLNA wireless streaming standard. The company suggested that there would also be some form of integration with its PlayStation network and the possibility of gaming functions.Sony has launched two Android powered tablets in the India, the Tablet S and the Tablet P. The Tablet S features a 9.4 inch display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor and 1GB of RAM alongside a unique wedge shaped design.  In comparison the Tablet P features a first of its kind dual 5.5 inch clamshell design, but aside from this difference the device maintains the same internals as the Tablet S. Both the devices feature PlayStation certification, universal remote functionality, and a wireless throw syncing technology. Aside from these features the Tablet S will be available in Wi-Fi only and 3G models which will feature 16 GB of storage. The Tablet P will only come in a 3G only model with 4 GB of storage. The Tablet S will be available for RS 33,990  and RS 29,990 for the 3G and Wi-Fi models respectively. The Tablet P will be available for RS 36,990.

Mobile phone makers wage war to protect their patents

The patent system was created to spur on innovation. But over recent years it has sparked an arms war between some of the world's leading mobile phone companies. The likes of Apple and Microsoft do not only sue their rivals to protect their own inventions, but go on to buy third party patents to build up their weapon stockpile. What is more, they appear increasingly willing to litigate. The number of handset patent infringement filings to the US courts grew from 24 cases in 2006, to 84 cases in 2010, according to Lex Machina, an intellectual property litigation data provider. It expects that number to grow to 97 cases this year, reflecting more than a four-fold rise in the space of half a decade.
The US patent system offers inventors a limited monopoly on new ideas lasting twenty years from when they are filed. However, mobile phone users expect giant leaps in progress over a much shorter time span.

Nasa develops space harpoon to take samples from comets

Nasa is developing a harpoon capable of taking samples from comets. The space agency has already built a prototype capable of launching test harpoon tips across a distance of a mile (1.6km).Nasa said that the samples could reveal the origins of the planets and how life was created on Earth.Comets are made up of frozen chunks of ice, gas and dust. They orbit the sun and, if they are close enough to the star, project a tail in the opposite direction made up of ionised gases.Particle samples recovered by Nasa's Stardust mission in 2002 were found to include an amino acid, glycine, which is used by living organisms to create proteins. The agency said the discovery supported the theory that some of life's ingredients had formed in space and had been delivered to Earth by meteorite and comet impacts. To gather more material, the agency is developing a sample-collecting space harpoon which could be projected "with surgical precision" from a spacecraft hovering above the target.Experts said this would avoid the risk of trying to anchor the craft to a comet's rugged surface. Comets are much smaller than planets and have much lower gravity as a consequence, so a landed spacecraft would have to find some way of attaching itself to the object to avoid floating off. Engineers at Nasa's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, have built a trial harpoon that is 6ft (183cm) tall. The bow is made out of a pair of springs normally used to provide the suspension for trucks. The bow string is made out of steel cable half an inch thick. It can fire projectiles at speeds of more than 100ft per second. Test projectiles are fired into large drums filled with sand, rock salt, ice or pebbles.  "We had to bolt it to the floor, because the recoil made the whole testbed jump after every shot," said the project's lead engineer, Donald Wegel."We're not sure what we'll encounter on the comet - the surface could be soft and fluffy, mostly made up of dust, or it could be ice mixed with pebbles, or even solid rock. "Most likely, there will be areas with different compositions, so we need to design a harpoon that's capable of penetrating a reasonable range of materials."The researchers said the work could also help discover the best way to destroy comets. Science-fiction stories have described using nuclear weapons to change the direction of comets set on collision course with Earth. However, Nasa warned the idea could backfire if the explosion only shattered the object into smaller, but still deadly, fragments.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The outstanding Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Honeycomb tablet is lighter and a hair thinner than the Apple iPad 2, and has a smaller footprint than either the Motorola Xoom or the Acer Iconia Tab A500, which are heavier and bulkier than most tablets. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses a brilliant, portable form-factor that beats every other tablet on the market. It's smaller and lighter, easy to grasp and not as bulky as a few of the other Android 3.0 tablets. On the top, the power and volume controls are easy to find. On the top-right you'll find the 3.4mm headphone jack. There are no buttons on the side; instead, Samsung put the speakers on the side for good, clear audio. On the bottom, there's just a 30-pin connector for the USB cable. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 doesn't offer the same sound fidelity of the Acer Iconia Tab, though, which benefits from Dolby technology in improving audio clarity. Instead, it uses side speakers (as opposed to putting them on the back) so the tablet is actually a better audio device if you skip the earbuds. We're not going to say the speakers are so good you can watch a movie from across your desk; for that, you'll want to use real powered speakers. Yet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 beats other Android tabs for good, clear sound.he Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 uses more or less the same interface as the other Android 3.0 tablets. There's a Home button on the lower-left, app icons fill the centre of the screen and alerts and settings are on the lower-left.The 3MP rear-facing camera on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 does provide some handy extra features, but overall the quality of the pictures looked a bit washed out and, in some cases, overly blurry.

Glasses-free 3D LG DX2500 monitor

LG has announced the arrival of a glasses-free 3D monitor for the Korean market – the LG DX2500.The 25-inch monitor uses parallax barrier 3D technology, which is the same tech that's being utilised for the Nintendo 3DS, and has been given TÜV Rheinland certification – a first for a monitor. To track head movement, a camera has been embedded in the monitor which tracks movement in real time. Alongside this you also get 2D-to-3D conversion.Speaking about the glasses-free monitor, Si-hwan Park, Vice President of the Monitor Division at LG's Home Entertainment Company, said: "LG is taking glasses-free 3D monitors mainstream with the DX2500."With the DX2500, we are making the LG brand synonymous with glasses-free 3Dmonitors. In 2012, we'll continue to expand our range of glasses-free 3D monitorsfeaturing different designs and advanced functions."

Mozilla to Develop OS based on android

Mozilla, who are renowned for their successful internet browser, are entering the mobile race, developing a new web-centric OS that will directly compete with Google, Apple and Microsoft. If the name Mozilla rings any bells it's because they're the tech boffins who put together Internet Explorer, the browser that Windows defaults to. Mozilla took the leviathan computing company on with its Firefox browser, and today it stands as the second most popular browser worldwide. Now the company who was underdog to Microsoft looks to be playing the same role, but this time against internet mogul Google.Announced on the Mozilla discussion forum, Mozilla have begun coding for phones and tablets. The BBC revealed the mobile operating system will draw on Android code, with Mozilla writing as much fresh code as possible. The hybrid-like operating system will be named Boot To Gecko.  It is an unusual name for an OS, until you remember Gecko is the rendering engine employed by the Firefox browser that interprets web page coding and displays it in a screen-friendly format, a homage to its origins. Even though Android coding will form the operating system's foundations, Mozilla hope to add a much more open wrapper around it than Google currently do, making it more versatile as an operating system. Its shared foundations will also make Boot To Gecko compatible with the same phones as Android, competing as a direct alternative to Google.Often, when you select a link from an application native to the Android or iOS market, the operating system will have to open a new webpage in the browser. Boot To Gecko aims to limit this by making applications much more web-centric. If the venture proves successful, Mozilla will be waging war against industry giants, with Google, Apple and Microsoft dominating many facets of the technological world. Unlike other players however, Mozilla aims to develop B2G in the open, so anyone can contribute. Google’s known for saying Android is “open”, and they’re right because much of Android is based on open sourced software, but rarely does the search engine firm take outside contributions into their OS, nor do they consulte the community as to the direction of the platform.

Hyundai EON – New Small Car

Hyundai India launched the stupendously awaited small car-Hyundai EON in India on October 13th, 2011. Hyundai actually switched ‘India ON’ when it launched its cute hatch Hyundai EON in Gurgaon at Kingdom of dreams. Hyundai EON is the cheapest car from the Korean car manufacturer with its base variant priced very affordably at Rs 2.69 lakh, while the top end variant costing Rs 3.71 lakh to one’s pocket. However, Hyundai EON was launched only in petrol variant and the fuel is no longer the fuel for masses. Therefore Hyundai India is mulling to introduce an LPG variant of the car. The Hyundai EON LPG was spotted near Chennai undergoing the tests and speculations point towards a launch in mid-2012. Hyundai Motors will equip the small car EON with LPG kits with the compatibility to switch between the petrol and the LPG option. Since diesel technology is expensive, LPG is the best way to keep the price of Hyundai EON stable and low. Even maintenance of the hatchback will become easier for customers who will also get better fuel efficiency and a suitable option alongside Maruti Alto which already offers a LPG variant. Here’re the list of prices basis on the model:

  • Hyundai EON D-lite : Rs 2.69 lakhs
  • Hyundai EON D-lite-o :  Rs 2.91 lakhs
  • Hyundai EON Eera : Rs. 3.11 lakhs
  • Hyundai EON Magna : Rs. 3.36 lakhs
  • Hyundai EON Magna-o : Rs. 3.46 lakhs
  • Hyundai EON Sportz : Rs. 3.71 lakhs
South Korean car maker Hyundai, claimed to be world’s fastest growing automaker and fourth largest car manufacturer across the globe, has introduce its eight car and fourth hatchback-Hyundai EON in India. Within no time after its incorporation in 1996 in India Hyundai Motor India became the country’s second largest car manufacturer and it offers seven cars in India including three hatchbacks, three sedans and one SUV. The eight addition of a hatchback was earlier known as Hyundai HA and Hyundai 800 in car market. However the company started publicizing the name-EON soon after that.
